PADI INSTRUCTOR EXAM CALANDAR
2025
The PADI IE is an evaluative program, a small part of what you would have learnt on the INSTRUCTOR DEVELOPMENT COURSE (IDC) under your Course Director, which is over two days. Testing instructor candidates’ teaching ability, dive theory knowledge, dive skills, understanding of the PADI System, and attitude and professionalism, to determine whether or not the candidate is sufficiently prepared to become a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
Day One
-
Dive Theory Exam
-
System Standards & Procedures Exam (open book, so all the answers are there which is pretty cool)
-
Knowledge Development Presentation
-
Confined Water 5 Skill Circuit
-
Confined Water Presentation
Day Two
-
Rescue Exercise 7
-
Open Water Presentation
The PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) offers two options: Option A (the 8-day course) and Option B (the 8-week course). Both options aim to train candidates to become PADI Open Water Scuba Instructors, but they differ in structure, pace, and depth of learning. Here's a comparison of the two options:
This is a condensed version of the IDC, typically followed by the PADI Instructor Examination (IE).
All of the core content is covered within the 8 to 10-day timeframe. It requires quick learning, with days often being long and packed with theory, pool sessions, and open water dives.
-
Ideal for: Experienced divers who can learn quickly.
-
Benefits: Quick pathway to certification.
-
Challenges: Fast-paced, less time for practice and review.
OPTION 'B'
8-Weeks idc course(Part-time)
A slower-paced program that allows more time for practice, feedback, and development. It often includes additional development opportunities such as teaching practice and classroom sessions either in person or over zoom meetings.
The content is spread out over several weeks, allowing you to absorb and apply each section. During this time, you will have more time to dive deeper into topics such as teaching techniques, dive theory, and PADI standards.
-
Ideal for: Newer divers or those needing more time to learn.
-
Benefits: More time for review, practice, and teaching experience.
-
Challenges: Longer commitment.
OPTION 'A'
8-day idc course (Full time)
